Kindermusik Philosophy
Kindermusik is the community of families and teachers passionately committed to bringing music to children’s lives through developmentally appropriate curricula, CDs, books, instruments, and activities for our classes and for family time at home.
Kindermusik’s philosophy is founded upon rigorous research and our fundamental beliefs:
- Every parent is the child’s most important teacher.
- Every child is musical.
- The home is the most important learning environment.
- Music nurtures a child’s cognitive, emotional, social, language, and physical development.
- Every child should experience the joy, fun, and learning which music brings to life.
Meet Our Instructors

Miss Bettina
Bettina Ferraro earned her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Montana State University, and her Master of Arts in teaching at Grand Canyon University in Pheonix, Arizona. She also studied under the Royal Conservatory of Music system in Canada, until her move back to the states in 1997.
She has enjoyed working in church music ministries, working with both adult and children’s choirs, as well as participating on worship teams. She is a music director of Christian Youth Theater, and currently sings in a dance band. Bettina feels called to teach because she believes in striving for excellence, while making music fun and accessible to all ages and abilities.
Her hobbies include training for triathlons, writing and gardening. She loves spending time with her family, biking with her husband and 3 children, and traveling.
Although Bettina’s main focus is teaching music, I also like to take opportunities to perform whenever I can. I was involved for two seasons of singing in Bellingham Festival of Music under the direction of Michael Palmer, and have performed at local community events.
Lisa Melo
Music has always been an integral part of Lisa’s life. The daughter of music teachers, she grew up singing, playing piano and flute. She continued her vocal training and studied Music Education at Warner Pacific College.
She is now a licensed Kindermusik Educator and teaches beginning piano, flute and voice. She has enjoyed participating on the worship team, the children’s ministry band and special needs ministry at church, has been a member and guest soloist for the Vancouver USA Singers, a keyboardist and vocalist for a local dance band, and played in an occasional musical for Christian Youth Theater. Recording a CD of lullabies and prayers was one of her favorite projects.
She loves to share the joy of music and the many benefits it imparts to children of all ages.

Zoom Buggy!—Swoosh, vroom, and clickety-clack your way through this delightful unit. Babies and adults will dance, sing, and play instruments to the theme of being on the go. Chug around the room to the song “Little Red Caboose,” hold on tightly while “Riding in the Buggy,” and dance your way to “Zoom-e-oh!” Engage in rituals and playful activities such as infant massage, lap bounces, exercise, and quiet time.
Dream Pillow — This title alone brings images of rocking, cuddling, singing, and lulling to sleep. But leading up to sleepy time are many upbeat and playful activities. Babies and Adults will swirl to a dreamy cloud dance “Meet Me Tonight in Dreamland.” They’ll also play baby appropriate instruments to “Aiken Drum,” and “Sarasponda.” Favorite nursery rhymes like “Wee Willie Winkie,” and “Diddle, Diddle, Dumpling,” are sprinkled throughout the classes. It’s easy to weave many of the class songs and activities into your families’ daily routines.
What a Parent and Child Will Experience in Class:
- Variety of Music – Musical diversity builds strong neural in a baby’s forming mind, which is why each Kindermusik semester contains an array of styles, sounds, and genres.
- Instrument Play – Age-appropriate experiences with child-safe instruments enhance a sense of rhythm and steady beat, develops a keen awareness of the distinguishing qualities of sound, and encourages spontaneity and creativity.
- Dance – A classroom full of baby and adult pairs dancing together helps a little body develop the muscle strength needed to crawl and walk and helps a little heart to fall in love with the sheer joy of responding to music.
- Together Time – A Kindermusik class is truly the essence of “quality time,” offering the parent a place to create special memories with their child, gain new insights into their child’s development, and nurture their child’s natural love of music.
- Expert Advice – A Kindermusik Educator explains “what-to-watch-for” every step of the way and how each activity enhances a child’s complete development.
- Learning Continues at Home – With the home materials, the learning continues at home with the child’s best teacher—the parent!
