Darrell Hunt

Violin, Viola, and Cello Instructor

Darrell was born in Longview, WA and began playing the violin at the age of twelve. After further studies in the Portland/Vancouver area, he won the concerto competitions for both the SW Washington Youth Symphony (as a sophomore) and the SW Washington Symphony (as a senior).

He then attended the University of Puget Sound, winning that school’s concerto competition and earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music. His teacher there was Edward Seferian. Darrell also has a Masters in Music Degree from Rice University in Houston, TX. He has served as concertmaster for the University Puget Sound Symphony, Ballet Tacoma, Tacoma Civic Chorus, The Spoleto Festival in Charleston, assistant concertmaster of the Tacoma Symphony, and concertmaster of the Oregon Sinfonietta for the last 10 years.

Darrell's students have competed at state level in Washington and Oregon and are frequently section leaders or concertmasters of their high school orchestras and youth symphonies. Many of his students receive music scholarships for their university studies. 

 

Darrell loves teaching and has 30 years of experience working with students of all ages and abilities.
