David Hagen

Drum Set

Prior to moving to Portland, David Hagen earned his music performance degree from the University of Idaho, studying with esteemed professor Dan Bukvich and Dr. Vern Sielert, two of the most in-demand musicians/composers/arrangers in the Northwest.

Hagen began teaching privately while in college, as well as helped lead master classes and workshops for middle/high school students. After college, he pursued an opportunity to tour with an ensemble that traveled to public schools across Idaho to teach rhythmic fundamentals to music and non-musician students alike. He continues to educate students in drumset with emphasis on fundamentals in jazz and rock music, sight reading, and stick/brush technique.

In addition to playing drums, David is also a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and songwriter. These endeavors flourished during his internship at Bear Creek studio in Woodinville, WA, under the tutelage of record producer Ryan Hadlock and recording engineer Taylor Carroll. During this time he was the assistant engineer for sessions for bands/artists like Train, Vance Joy, Tobias Jesso Jr., and others.

Since moving to Portland in 2017, David Hagen has performed alongside many of the titans of the Portland music scene, including Scott Pemberton, Asher Fulero, Steve Berlin, Louis “King Louie” Pain, John Nastos, Sarah Clarke, Dave Captein, Matt Sazima, Jack Radsliff, Noah Simpson, Chance Hayden, Michael Elson, Charlie Brown III, Ben Turner, and so many more. As a full time member of the Scott Pemberton O-Theory, he has toured extensively over the years, traveling coast to coast to play large events and festival stages such as High Sierra Music Festival, Briggs Blues Festival, Four Peaks, Hangtown Halloween Ball, Ain’t Necessarily Dead, Live at Lakeview, and many more. He has recorded albums with Scott with legendary record producer Steve Berlin.
